Tactical first aid kits of Armed Forces of Ukraine

A military first aid kit is one of the basic elements of a soldier’s equipment, containing the necessary medical supplies designed to provide first aid in the field. Since the composition of the first aid kit is selected individually, taking into account the specifics of the service and the needs of a particular fighter, there is no uniform standard, but the minimum set is generally similar.

Contents of an individual military first aid kit-pouch

  • Sterile gauze bandage
  • Individual sterile dressing bag
  • Non-woven adhesive plaster
  • Corrugated hemostatic bandage
  • Pair of medical examination gloves
  • Thermal blanket
  • Two CAT or SOF tourniquets
  • Paramedical scissors for cutting clothes and shoes
  • Marker for applying information
  • Nasopharyngeal airway

Since quick access to medical supplies is critical in combat conditions, there are pouches for their transportation — special organisers equipped with pockets and slots for decompression needles, markers, etc. Pouches are made of durable material — usually nylon or cordura, and are attached via MOLLE to plate carriers, chest rigs or backpacks.
Leg first aid kits are convenient too: quick-detachable bags that hang on your belt and leg, always being at hand. To remove the first aid kit, just unfasten the fastex on the slings that hold the bag.
Another good option for transporting army IFAK is offered by the American brand Phokus — packages with medical care kits follow the shape of ballistic plates and are designed for storage in a plate carrier. For quick removal, there is a special tongue that should be pulled down.
For representatives of the Medical Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, large sets of medical supplies will be appropriate to treat several victims. They are packaged in capacious bags or backpacks designed specifically for doctors.

Which military first aid kit should you choose?

Before buying an IFAK kit, you should take into account the conditions of its use, and also decide how many people it should be designed for. Taking this into account, first aid kits are divided into several types, which we will discuss below.

  1. Individual First Aid Kit, IFAK. Individual first aid kit for a soldier, equipped with NATO standards. Designed to eliminate bleeding of the extremities, chest injuries and other wounds. The contents of different models may vary, but the basic set necessarily includes hemostatic agents, a nasopharyngeal airway, means for eliminating breathing disorders and means to stop minor bleeding, maintain blood circulation and combat shock.
  2. Universal first aid kit. Sets of medical supplies designed for treatment of 2 to 4 people. They contain everything necessary for operational assistance in combat conditions. Since such a number of components takes up a lot of space and requires organised storage, these first aid kits come complete with a tactical organiser bag equipped with appropriate compartments and slots.
  3. Medical military backpacks. Thin but roomy backpacks designed for field doctors and rescuers. Equipped with tear-off panels for scissors and mesh pockets for other equipment.

If you already have a complete tactical first aid kit and require separate medical supplies for it, they can be purchased in the appropriate first aid kit consumables section.
