The SAM Medical IO Needle 25 mm is a medical device designed to provide quick and safe access to blood circulation through the bone marrow.
This instrument is important in situations where venous access is difficult or impossible, such as during massive blood loss, cardiac arrest, or in critical patients.
The product is a stylet and catheter assembly secured with a locking connection.
SAM IO is a manually operated intraosseous access system:
Catheter placement is achieved by continuous actuation by repeatedly pressing the trigger, gently guiding the needle assembly into position;
Repeated full pressure of the trigger creates a rotational motion of the needle combined with a light pressure, which combined with a gentle downward push results in controlled placement of the insertion;
Once the needle assembly is properly positioned, the stylet is removed to expose a standard Luer lock to connect the extension set;
Once the extension set is connected, aspiration checks, lavage, and selected treatment can begin.
The SAM IO 15ga needle is 25mm long and has a blue-colored catheter to accommodate multiple application sites and a wide range of patient demographics.
The 25 mm needle length is recommended for children weighing 3 kg or more (infants and toddlers) and for adults with a lean build or when inserting into areas with less soft tissue thickness (e.g., distal tibia).
SAM IO needles utilize a pentagonal sharpening that is designed to facilitate insertion with the SAM IO driver or manual insertion.
The needle is made of medical-grade stainless steel for sterility, durability, and long-term use.
The unique shape and size of the needle allow for easy insertion and precise placement.
The needle provides access to the bone cavity in less than 10 seconds, which is critical in emergencies.
It provides the ability to quickly inject fluids, medications, blood products, and other preparations directly into the bloodstream.
Suitable for adults with minimal to moderate adipose tissue for insertion into the proximal humerus, proximal tibia, and distal tibia, making it suitable for use in a variety of clinical situations.
For pediatric patients with minimal to moderate adipose tissue: proximal humerus, proximal tibia, distal tibia, and distal femur.
The radiopaque contrast allows it to be used in conjunction with X-ray and CT examinations to monitor correct insertion.
The sealed nature of the product reduces the risk of contamination during the procedure.
The needle is supplied in a hermetically sealed package, which guarantees sterility and readiness for immediate use.
The packaged product remains sterile for several years, which makes it convenient for storage in medical kits.
Each package additionally contains a NeedleVISE needle holder and an extension tube.
The needle is used in emergency medicine, military medicine, critical care, and rescue practices, respectively by paramedics, military medics, EMTs, and other medical professionals working in stressful situations.
Key Benefits:
Allows rapid access to circulation in critically ill patients;
Requires no specialized skills or equipment, making it accessible to a wide range of healthcare professionals;
Intelligent design reduces discomfort during insertion, which is important for critically ill patients.
NOTES. When determining the anatomical location and needle length for intraosseous access, the age and physiology of the patient should be considered according to the protocol or standard and on a case-by-case basis based on clinical judgment.
