The SAM Medical IO Driver for intraosseous access is manually operated. The device operates by repeatedly depressing the trigger while gently guiding the needle into position. Repeated full squeezing of the trigger creates rotation with a passive ratchet mechanism designed to accommodate the SAM IO needle assembly, which, combined with a gentle downward push, results in a controlled injection of injectable material.
IMPORTANT: Do not use excessive force during injection! The primary mechanisms of bone penetration should be mechanical rotation of the needle with the handle and the cutting edge of the needle, not downward pressure.
Once the needle assembly is properly inserted, the stylet is removed to expose the standard Luer lock to connect the extension set.
SAM IO intraosseous access needles vary in length: 15 mm, 25 мм, and 45 мм – allowing you to quickly and accurately select the one that is perfect for your medical intervention (needles sold separately).
The SAM IO driver is designed for effective intraosseous access in both adults and children.
When determining the anatomical insertion site and needle length for intraosseous access, consider the age and physiologic characteristics of the patient according to the protocol or standard and on a case-by-case basis based on clinical judgment.
Common sites of insertion:
Proximal humerus (left or right side)
Proximal tibia (left or right side)
Distal tibia (left or right side)
A distal femur (in children - see instructions for details)
The SAM IO driver's innovative and lightweight design requires no batteries, allowing for quick learning and intuitive use. Made of high-quality polymers, the device meets the MIL-STD 810G ruggedness standard for reliability in harsh environments.
The manufacturer notes that the driver has been tested for more than 10,000 activations.
Before use:
Activate the driver 1-3 times without the needle attached.
If you don't feel or see any damage, the device is usable.
